Family Matters

One thing that I wish other people knew about me is my circumstances with my older brother. Some people that I know have no idea I have a brother or for the people that do know they don’t exactly understand the relationship I have with him. My older brother is 21 years old and is a past alcoholic. He is currently not drinking and is living in Edmonton. As of right now he is doing very well the only thing I am worried about is that he has been at this point before and then just threw it all away and it kind of sucks for me and my family.

"Somedays I just wish that he could stop drinking and just be back to his old self but I have no control on what he does so all that I can really do is hope that it gets better."

I love my brother with all of my heart and I really want to believe that he will eventually get better but at the same time I know that he has let me down before and I don't want to get my hopes up just so he can throw it all away again. One thing I do understand about his situation is that it is incredibly hard for him to be away from alcohol and for him to stop drinking. I think that the reason he drinks so much is to take away the pain inside of him because the past couple of years it is almost like my parents have given up on him and have no hope what so ever. Somedays I just wish that he could stop drinking and just be back to his old self but I have no control on what he does so all that I can really do is hope that it gets better.
